Caythorpe 2009

Day 2

After a great night's sleep - yes, honestly! - it was off for more excitement! After a hearty breakfast it was off to the low ropes course. A little like an assault course the children had to use upper body strength to negotiate their way across, through, under and over a rope course.

Then it was on to the trapeze - boy oh boy. A 35 foot telegraph pole had to be scaled, before standing atop a metre square platform to then finally jump into mid air to grab the trapeze bar - hair-raising! Just the climb up the ladder was achievement for some. Other managed to scale the pole. And for the complete nutcases amongst our group, some even managed to stand, jump and swing on the trapeze. MAD!

Lunch was well earned and welcome. But it was soon onto Jacob's ladder. Whereas the trapeze had been about a singular feat, this was very much about team accomplishment. In teams the children had to climb a series of logs that were suspended horizontally by chains. As one pulled on the safety rope, the other had to use both upper and lower body agility to scale the ladder. All the children did amazingly well and really pulled together as a team.

The final activity of the day was a challenge course. A little like our trim trail but on a much larger scale, the children had no problem going under, over and through the course. It proved a little more tricky when they were blindfolded and had to rely on their friends to get them through it!

It was during this that we had 2 visitors - Mr Little (thank you for the donuts) and Miss Cottingham (thank you for the sweets). The children were thrilled to see them both.

So, after an evening playing games, we went off to our tents to await our final day of archery and rock climbing. Would there be enough energy to carry on? We shall let you know as soon as we can!
