PGL Day 2
Day Two was an early start – the dawn chorus woke us gently though! After a hearty breakfast it was off to the mornings activities. The zip wire was the first challenge faced by some. Leaving the high platform to whoosh across the field was quite daunting but again, spurred on by friends with words of encouragement everyone had a successful ‘flight’.
Across the field two other groups were facing the challenge course and giant swing from Day 1. The squeals as they were released from the swing could be heard far and wide!
Quad biking was the fourth activity taken up this morning. All children were given a thorough PGL driving test before they went off in their pairs around the course.
It was soon time for lunch – another welcome break for all and time to refuel ready for the afternoon.
In addition to the activities tried out so far, our afternoon sessions also included rifle shooting and Jacob’s ladder. The rifle shooting required concentration and a steady hand – not to mention a good aim. There were some high scoring shooters amongst us!
Jacob’s ladder involved the children working together as a team to scramble over parallel logs that were suspended from a great height. Some of us managed to get onto the bottom rung – others managed a lot higher!
Again, after another welcome evening meal it was off to change into our glad rags and bling ready for the disco! There was a great atmosphere as over 100 children from all over the country gathered together to enjoy the music. I might be biased, but I thought the moves that our children showed were by far the best in the room (especially the conga!)
As you can imagine, after that full days’ activity and the evening entertainment our tents and beds were very welcome. The children were truly shattered but I think every single one had had a thoroughly enjoyable day.
